Your test results
Most blood tests are back within 5 working days. If you need more tests or treatment, we will contact you.
How to see your results
- NHS App (easiest): results appear once a doctor has reviewed them, with their comment. Short video: viewing your record in the NHS App
- Phone or visit between 10am and 4pm and we'll tell you the next steps.
- MARA: send a results query online. Start with MARA
How long results take
Most routine blood tests come back within 5 working days. Some specialist tests take longer; we'll tell you if yours will.
What the comment means
A doctor or nurse reviews every result and leaves a comment. Please read it and follow it.
| If the comment says | Please |
|---|---|
| Normal, no action | Nothing to do. If you still have symptoms, contact us. |
| Book a routine appointment | Not urgent, but a clinician needs to discuss it with you. Book a routine appointment. |
| Book a telephone appointment | A clinician would like to speak to you. Call reception to arrange a phone appointment. |
| Discuss with medical secretary | It may relate to a hospital referral. Call and ask for our medical secretary. |
| Repeat test needed | Book another blood test with our nurse or healthcare assistant. The comment says why and when. |
| Follow self-care advice | Changes to diet, alcohol or activity may help. See NHS Live Well. |
