Privacy notice

To care for you safely we keep records about you: your details, notes about your health and contacts with us, treatment, test results, and relevant information from people involved in your care.

How we use your records
  • To make safe, effective decisions about your care
  • To work with others who care for you
  • To check the quality of our care and investigate concerns
  • To protect public health
When we share information

We never sell your data or use it commercially. We share identifiable information only:

  • with health and care professionals directly involved in your care, such as district nurses and hospitals
  • with trusted organisations working for us, including our GP federation, Morecambe Bay Primary Care Collaborative
  • to help you access other services, with your consent
  • when you ask us to, or in a clinical emergency
  • when the law requires it, such as safeguarding or a court order

Anonymised information may help the NHS plan services. Tell us if you'd prefer yours not to be used.

Your rights and who to contact

You have the right to confidentiality and to ask for a copy of your records. Write to the data controller at the practice address.

Data controller: Sharon O'Brien-Rocks, practice manager
Data protection officer: Dr M F Amin

Concerns about how we handle data can go to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Medicus electronic records (January 2026)

Since 19 January 2026 our clinical records are held in a new clinical system, Medicus, which meets NHS data security standards.

How we use AI

We use AI tools to support our team, never to replace it. No decision about your care is made by AI alone; a clinician or trained team member reviews and approves everything before it goes in your record.

What AI helps with

  • Filing letters and documents
  • Directing your requests to the right person
  • Writing up consultations (a digital scribe), so your clinician can focus on you
  • Tracking referrals so nothing is missed
  • Finding patients who may benefit from checks or reviews

Our guarantees

  • Your data is processed on practice-controlled equipment
  • It is never sold
  • It is never used for marketing
  • It is not given to third parties for their own use

The digital scribe

We always ask before using it, and you can say no without affecting your care. The audio is used only to write the note and is not kept. The approved note becomes part of your record like any other.

Opting out

You can ask for your data to be excluded from AI processing. Email lscicb-mb.bemcpatient@nhs.net with your name and date of birth.

Other policies

Confidentiality and staff access

Reception and admin staff need access to records to do their jobs, and are bound by the same confidentiality rules as clinicians.

Access to your records

You can see much of your record in the NHS App. To request a copy, contact the practice manager.

Freedom of Information

Requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 go to the practice manager.

Summary Care Record

Your Summary Care Record holds your medicines, allergies and bad reactions, so NHS staff can treat you safely in an emergency or when we're closed. Only staff involved in your care can see it. It's optional. About the Summary Care Record · Opt-out form

National data opt-out

You can choose whether your confidential information is used for research and planning. Your NHS data matters

Zero tolerance

We do not accept violence or abuse towards our staff or patients. Anyone who is violent may be removed from our list immediately.
